After our incredible two-week European journey through Paris, Tuscany, and the Amalfi Coast this May, I can't stop thinking about our days in the City of Light. While tourists flocked to the usual spots, we discovered the Paris that locals cherish – hidden courtyards, neighborhood bistros, and charming spots where Parisians actually spend their time. Paris truly captivated us with its blend of iconic landmarks, cobblestone streets, and that unmistakable French joie de vivre that makes every moment feel authentic.
Here are my absolute favorite activities from our time in Paris that I highly recommend for anyone visiting in 2025:
The Rodin Museum was honestly the unexpected highlight of our trip. While everyone rushes to the Louvre, this intimate museum dedicated to sculptor Auguste Rodin offers a more peaceful experience. The gardens are absolutely breathtaking, with Rodin's famous sculptures like "The Thinker" displayed among meticulously maintained greenery. We spent an entire afternoon here, sketching and simply soaking in the atmosphere.
For book lovers, Shakespeare and Company bookstore was a magical discovery. This iconic English-language bookstore has such a rich literary history, and we spent hours browsing their collection. The staff even stamped our purchases with their famous logo – the perfect souvenir for bookworms!
Paris shopping goes far beyond the luxury boutiques on the Champs-Élysées. The Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen flea market was an adventure in itself. We got lost among stalls of antiques, vintage clothing, and fascinating collectibles. I found a gorgeous vintage Hermès scarf for a fraction of the retail price – definitely my favorite souvenir from the trip!
For something unique, we visited Timeless Pearly where we designed our own bracelets. The jewelry workshop experience was so personal, and now I have a beautiful piece that reminds me of Paris every time I wear it.
Fashion enthusiasts shouldn't miss Eros Vintage and Nuovo Vintage Marais. Both boutiques offer carefully curated vintage pieces that capture Parisian style through the decades. I found the most perfect 1970s Yves Saint Laurent blouse that I'll treasure forever.
No trip to Paris is complete without indulging in its incredible food scene. For an authentic experience, Breizh Café Le Marais serves some of the city's best traditional Breton crêpes. Their savory galettes with egg, cheese, and ham were divine, especially paired with a bowl of cider.
For dinner, Chez Janou became our favorite spot. This lively bistro's Provençal cuisine was outstanding, and they have an impressive pastis selection (Sam tried at least five different varieties). Their chocolate mousse, served tableside from a massive bowl, is worth the visit alone!
If you're looking for something more upscale, Girafe offers not only exceptional seafood but also stunning Eiffel Tower views. We timed our reservation for sunset, and the combination of fresh oysters, champagne, and that iconic landmark glowing as darkness fell was truly magical.
One of our favorite days was spent exploring concept stores. Piscine Store blends fashion, design, and art in a way that feels distinctly Parisian. Even if you don't buy anything, the curation alone is inspiring.
For something totally different, Le Nom specializes in custom-made purses and leather goods. We watched artisans crafting bespoke pieces, and I commissioned a small crossbody bag that they shipped to me once completed—a true investment piece.
While the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and other major attractions are must-sees for first-time visitors, these more intimate experiences revealed the true soul of Paris to us. The city rewards those willing to wander down hidden streets and step into local establishments.
If you're planning your own Parisian adventure for 2025, I'd recommend balancing the iconic sights with these more personal experiences. Spend mornings at famous landmarks, but save your afternoons for vintage shopping, museum gardens, and long meals at neighborhood bistros.
Paris isn't just a destination; it's a feeling—one that lingers long after you've returned home. I'm already planning our next visit!
